Personal PROFILE
Seongcheol Kim received his BBA and MBA from Seoul National University in Korea and an MA in Telecommunication and PhD in Mass Media from Michigan State University in the U.S. From 1989 to early 2008, Dr. Kim has worked for SK Group, Seoul Metropolitan Government and Information and Communication University (currently KAIST). He is the former president of the Korean Association for Information Society (KAIS) and Korea Media Management Association (KMMA), and the former director of Korea University Library. He is now an outside director of KT and Studio Dragon Corp., the senior outside director of Korea Communication Agency (KCA), the chairman of Global K-FAST Alliance, and a board member of the International Telecommunications Society (ITS). He received the Order of Merit from the President of Korea in 2018. He also received the Seoktop Research Award of Korea University 8 times and the Seoktop Teaching Award of Korea University 14 times. He became the winner of the 2022 Academic Achievement Award presented by Korea University Alumni Association (KUAA). His research was selected as one of the Top 50 Research Achievements of National Research Foundation of Korea, so he received the Commendation from the Minister of Ministry of Education in 2022. He received the Commendation from the Minister of Ministry of Science and ICT in 2023 because the Smart Media Service Research Center was selected as top 3 research centers among 67 government-supported university research centers.
Research Area
Professor Kim is currently the director of the Center for ICT and Society and the director of the Smart Media Service Research Center.
He is also co-editor of Digital Business journal (SCOPUS) and an associate editor of Telecommunications Policy journal (SSCI).
Based on international interdisciplinary research, he loves solving fast-changing and cutting-edge problems in digital ecosystem and global society.

Center for ICT & Society
Professor Seongcheol Kim is currently the director of the Center for ICT and Society
The Center for ICT & Society (CIS) at Korea University was established in 2013 with
the support of the National Research Foundation of Korea's Social Science Korea (SSK) program.
Over the past decade, the research center has undertaken small-scale projects for 3 years,
medium-scale projects for 3 years, and large-scale projects for 4 years, focusing on
technology in the field of Internet of Things (IoT) and intelligent communication technology.
The center aims to enhance societal understanding of technological evolution,
progressing from IoT to intelligent information technology, through its research efforts.
Additionally, it seeks to contribute to the realization of an intelligent information society
by addressing social issues arising from intelligent information technology.
