[CIS] KU–RNU Joint Symposium: Exploring Digital Technology and User Well-being

The second KU–RNU Joint Symposium, hosted collaboratively by Jeonbuk National University, Korea University, and Gangneung-Wonju National University, took place at Jeonbuk National University under the theme “Does Digital Technology Make Users Happier?” The event brought researchers together to explore user experience and digital culture from a wide range of perspectives.

The symposium carried special significance for our lab, as it was held at Jeonbuk National University, where Prof. Chulmin Lim, a SUITE Lab alumnus, is currently teaching. His involvement in organizing the event created a meaningful bridge between institutions and research generations.

Throughout the 2-day sessions, scholars discussed topics such as user protection in the era of generative AI, shifting patterns in YouTube news consumption, the social dynamics of K-pop fandom, and emerging forms of conflict and fragmentation in digital communication. Researchers from all three universities exchanged insights on how digital technologies reshape everyday life—and the new questions that arise alongside these changes.

Rather than a purely formal academic gathering, the symposium offered an open and collaborative environment to reflect on user well-being and the evolving role of technology. It was a warm and engaging space that showcased the value of inter-university collaboration.
